Car Computer Cloning (Module Cloning)

When a car computer fails, the replacement doesn't know your car: its VIN, options, immobilizer data and keys belong to another car, or to no car at all. Module cloning copies the data from your original module into a matching replacement, so it works like the old one did: same VIN, same settings, same keys. It's often the quickest way to fix a failed ECU, BCM, TCM or immobilizer module without a dealer visit. For cloning, the old module has to be readable and the replacement has to be the same part, and we check both before we start.

How the job goes

  1. 01

Call or text the car, the module that failed, and its part number if you have it.

  2. 02

We confirm the replacement matches, text you the price, and tell you if cloning will work.

  3. 03

We read your original module's data and write it into the replacement, removing it from the car if needed.

  4. 04

We install it, check that the car starts and the keys work, and look for warning lights.

What this covers

  • ECU, ECM and PCM cloning
  • BCM and TCM cloning
  • Immobilizer module cloning, so your keys keep working
  • Water-damaged or failed modules, when the data can still be read
  • New or used replacements matched by part number
  • Most makes and models

What changes the price

  • Which module and which car
  • Whether the old module can still be read
  • Whether the module has to come out of the car to be read
  • Whether we supply the replacement or you do

Questions

What is car computer cloning?

Cloning copies the data from your original module, such as the VIN, settings, software and immobilizer data, into a matching replacement. The car then sees the replacement as its own module, so the keys and the other systems keep working.

Is cloning better than programming a new module?

It depends. Cloning is often quicker when the old module can still be read and the replacement is the same part. When the old module is dead or the parts don't match, the new module has to be programmed instead. We tell you which way fits your car.

Can you clone a damaged ECU?

Often, if its memory can still be read, even when the module itself no longer works. If the data is gone, the replacement has to be programmed from scratch or by the dealer. We check that before we start.

Will my keys still work after cloning?

When the module that stores the key data is cloned correctly, your existing keys keep working with the replacement. If a key stopped working for another reason, we can program it while we're there.
