Immobilizer Key Programming
The immobilizer is the part of your car's security that checks the key before the engine is allowed to run. If the immobilizer warning light stays on after a key replacement, or the car cranks but won't start with a new key, the key or a module has not been programmed to the immobilizer. We fix that the right way: we program the key, or a replacement module, to the car's immobilizer, so the security keeps working as the factory intended. Ford PATS, Dodge and Chrysler WIN modules, BMW CAS, FEM and BDC, Mercedes-Benz EIS/EZS and more.
How the job goes
- 01
Call or text the car and what you see: security light on, cranks but won't start, or key not recognized.
- 02
We text you the price before we drive out and tell you honestly if it's a dealer-only job.
- 03
At the car we check ID and ownership, then read the immobilizer and the keys it knows.
- 04
We program the key or the replacement module to the immobilizer and test several starts.

Questions
Why is my immobilizer light on after replacing my key?
The new key was cut, but its transponder isn't programmed to the immobilizer, or it's the wrong chip for the car. The car sees an unknown key and blocks the start. We check the key and program it, or tell you honestly if it can't be used.
Can a locksmith program an immobilizer?
An automotive locksmith with the right tools can program keys to most immobilizers and program replacement modules such as a WIN module, a CAS or an EIS. Some late-model cars require the dealer; we'll tell you before we drive out if that's your case.
What is a WIN module on a Dodge or Chrysler?
The WIN, or wireless ignition node, is the module behind the key slot or start button on many Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram vehicles. It reads the key and works with the immobilizer. When it fails or is replaced, it has to be programmed to the car.
My car cranks but won't start. Is it the immobilizer?
It can be. A key or security light that flashes while you crank is a common sign. It can also be fuel, spark or a sensor. We check the immobilizer side and, if the problem is mechanical, we tell you so you can see a mechanic.
