Transponder Key Programming for Chip Keys

Most keys with a thick plastic head carry a small transponder chip. The car reads that chip before it lets the engine run, so a key that is only cut will turn but won't start the car. Transponder key programming matches the chip to your car's immobilizer. We cut the blade, traditional or laser-cut, and program the chip at your car, whether you need a spare, a replacement or all keys lost. That includes systems like Ford PATS and many Toyota, Honda, Chevrolet, Nissan and Chrysler keys. Price by text before we drive out.

How the job goes

  1. 01

Call or text the year, make and model. Tell us if you still have a key that starts the car.

  2. 02

We text you the price before we drive out, so you know the cost up front.

  3. 03

At the car we check ID and ownership, then cut the blade by code, from your key or from the lock.

  4. 04

We program the transponder chip to the immobilizer and test the start several times.

Questions

How do I know if my car key has a chip?

If the key has a thick plastic head, it almost always has a transponder chip. Many cars also show a security or key light on the dash. The quickest way to know is to text us the year, make and model, and we'll tell you.

Why does my new key turn but the car won't start?

The blade was cut, but the transponder chip was not programmed to the car's immobilizer, so the car won't accept it. You may also see the security light flash. We can program that key, or a new one, right at your car.

Can a hardware store copy a chip key?

Some stores can clone certain chips, but many cars need the key programmed through the car itself, and laser-cut blades need special machines. When a copy doesn't start the car, we can program it properly at your car.

What is Ford PATS?

PATS is Ford's Passive Anti-Theft System, the immobilizer that reads the chip in your Ford key. A new key has to be programmed to PATS before the engine will run. We program PATS keys at your car, including when all keys are lost.
